Born on June 22, 1964, Toñi grew up in Ponce, Puerto Rico with his brothers Cheo, Carlos and Alberto. His father José Miletti and his mother Matilde Martinez were well known school teachers for many years.
Toñi attended private and public schools. He graduated from the Dr. Pila High School in 1982. From a very early age, Toñi showed interest in aviation following Dad's love for general aviation. Toñi was a very inquisitive boy who always wanted to know the reasons how things worked. His favorite (and very annoying) phrase was "and why?"
Toñi grew up watching dad and Uncle Angel build and fly the one of the very first Bensen Gyrocopters that came to Puerto Rico. Toñi was fascinated with aviation and his room always had a few aircraft models or an aviation magazine. He would run outside and sometimes climbed on top of the house to look at any aircraft that flew over the house.
Toñi developed a strong mechanical aptitude during his adolescent years. You could always find him either working with dad fixing something around the house or working on someone's car. His skills at "fixing" things brought him notoriety among his friends. Toñi always had lots of friends around him who looked up to him for help.
Soon after his high school graduation, Toñi embarked on his quest to become a professional pilot. With Dad in-tow, Toñi pursued and obtained his private pilot certificate. He continued on to his commercial pilot certificate. At the same time, Toñi pursued a Bachelor's in Criminology from the Interamerican University.
Soon after graduating from college Toñi joined the Police force and became a helicopter pilot. He was instrumental in the implementation of the United Quick Response Force (or FURA by its Spanish acronym) helicopter unit in our hometown of Ponce. He continued to perfect his flying skills until he became Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
Toñi truly loved his job piloting FURA's Hughes/McDonnell Douglas/Boeing 500 helicopter. He was always eager to fly in support of ground and maritime units at a moments notice. He would usually fly over our home to let Dad know he was flying. He later applied and got accepted a position with U.S. Customs.
Toñi also loved to fly Radio Controlled (R/C) airplanes and helicopters. His ability to build and configure these models brought him many friends who sought his assistance and expertise. He was able to successfully compete in various R/C Acrobatic competitions.
Toñi also loved the sea and for a while had a nice boat which he enjoyed with his family and friends. Toñi always wanted a motorcycle and a few years back he purchased his pride and joy: a brand-new Harley-Davidson V-Rod! He really enjoyed riding on the weekends with Lizzy, his wife and usually called his brothers in the U.S. to brag about the weather and his riding adventures.
Toñi left behind a beautiful and lovely wife, his only son Max and his daughters Jennifer and Grace. I must not forget his dogs... He is gone now but will always live in the hearts of our family and friends.
We love you Toñi... We'll meet again...
